Someone trying to convince you with anecdotal evidence? Need a polite way to tell them you disagree? Here it is.

A new book called “Graphic Design, Referenced” features some of my work, stills from the animation Airport, also in HD. I’m yet to receive my copy — I need to order it first! — but you can see bits of Airport on the left of this pic.

Because life isn’t all about watching TV any more.

So Microsoft have made some really shitty videos. (Not the ones I made for them, they were cool.)

But this one… yikes. Another steaming pile of WTF in which actors tell you how to host a Windows 7 Launch Party. I know.

However, Cabel of Panic has edited together this vastly superior version, in which something slightly… *nudge*nudge*say*no*more different is implied.

At QUT Kelvin Grove Creative Industries Precinct, tomorrow at 6pm, Ulf Langheinrich’s LAND opens; hallucinatory projection and sound in 3D. Also, some of my work will be on two big screens for the duration of the exhibition. Exciting, no?

It’s free and on for two weeks if you can’t make the opening. I’ll be there from around 6pm, but not for too long: child in tow.

While building with blocks, Hazel just said: “Hazel’s going to make a big, big, big, great, enormous see-saw.”

How have I not posted this to my blog? Hazel and I singing “Why Does The Sun Shine?” on YouTube. Also on Vimeo, which is much nicer/friendlier/etc. except on iPhones.

Hazelwatch. In the evening, I read her to sleep with two books: “Good Night Me” (by Andrew Daddo, of all people — but it’s quite good!) and “Time For Bed” (by Mem Fox). The first is about an orangutan who puts his entire body to sleep, one limb at a time. Cute, but “good night me” is a confusing thing to say, right?

Last night, Hazel asked, “What does good night me mean?”

Virgin Blue charge $6/person/flight segment extra if you pay by credit or debit card. If you want to avoid it, you can try direct debit, but they won’t wait for you to do it on your own. They require additional software called POLi that will insert the airline’s details into your internet banking system. Let’s step through the issues:

1. It doesn’t work on anything other than Internet Explorer on PC. No support on Mac, on Firefox, on iPhone or any other phone.

2. It requires installation of extra software which is somehow going to supervise my internet banking session. This is an unacceptable security risk, especially with regard to internet banking. No way in hell is some unknown third party going to snoop on my family’s bank account in any way, even if they say they don’t store your password etc. etc.

3. Even if you have a PC and are willing to risk the security problems (or are unaware of them), if you don’t have all the required underlying software that POLi needs, you have to download and install 20MB+ of other software (.NET) and then restart your browser — and do the whole booking again.

Abysmal customer service and a general WTF feeling about the whole thing. I feel I just paid a $36 surcharge to maintain the security of my bank account and because I chose not to jump through several tedious, dangerous hoops.
