I’m sure many people I know can find something useful in 1000 words of advice for design students and/or 1000 words of advice for design teachers.

hey
just read the 1000 words
it was pretty interesting
the ‘photograph everything’ part especially
i try and do as much ‘extra’ as i can. maybe not in ‘media tech’ but i focus on ‘comm desgn’.
i dont know what it is but i dont ‘click’ with media tech. i think it comes down to the fact that i like to brainstorm and be creative but not actually produce the final polished product. my highschool/1st yr uni background is visual arts
i prefer still images – i really enjoy the assignments where we made a logo/info design/advertisng
i struggle with flash atm
i have the ideas but producing the work is where i have problems
i have to 2 weeks working hard to get the same mark that someone who does it in 3days.
i go to 3-4 of the same comdesign tute everyweek – and as the article says – what you put in is what you get out
so far im getting straight 7s for comdesign
im really interested in doing some work experience on the holidays. i was going to email you about this but i guess here is a good a place as any.
do you have any advice for me regurading who i should bug about taking me on?
i will work for free
im just after the experience!
John Mein (the student bugging you about flash on fridays :P)
ps. nice website btw – i will explore it when i have some spare time
I wish I had read this when I was in art school…I was the only one in my class who didn’t do an internship! I could have done a lot more in those days in terms of self-promotion and getting out there…
