Some of these works (Twelve Fives) are currently on display at QUT Kelvin Grove here in Brisbane, dusk till 9pm each night until the 20th. If you'd like to see Twelve Fives shown in an interesting way (multiple pieces overlapping in time) then please come along. It's free and outdoors on large projection screens.
Edit: Now over.
Twelve Fives USA #09: San Francisco is live. Though I finished the rough version of this edit many months ago, it sat around waiting for a re-edit. Much better now. There are more in the USA series to come but others will likely sneak to the front of the queue.
In a huge technological step backwards, here's a 4:3 Twelve Fives, shot in 2001: Twelve Fives Europe #01: By Scooter. From when my wife and I travelled around Europe for three months on a scooter, this is the sped-up best bits that she shot while I rode.
Here's the iPhone-friendly version of Twelve Fives Hazel HD #01: A Year in a Minute. That's five seconds of video from each month in my daughter Hazel's first year. The second year is almost up and there will be another video in the next month or so.
Tech notes: Though this video is 640x360 — as other HD-sourced movies on this site will be — this video has already been posted in HD to Vimeo and YouTube. Why both? Vimeo is a much friendlier place for original video, but YouTube works on the iPhone. Finally, if you're using QuickTime Player to create 640x360 from 1080i video, be sure to check "Deinterlace" in the QuickTime Player's Properties window.
A long time coming. I'd love to (re)commit to doing one of these a week, but... no promises, and not likely in the next month or so. Twelve Fives #08: Midwest; enjoy.
Finally, finally, I know. Not dead, just resting. This episode leaves NYC behind, heading for Chicago in Twelve Fives USA #07: Onward and Out. There's a whole lot more of the US to see, but I'm sure we'll be seeing some Twelve Fives HD and Twelve Fives Hazel before too long.
Yes, Twelve Fives is back, with a quick trip into the first place you'll visit after you know how to walk in the virtual world of Second Life: Help Island. Because if you haven't been to Second Life, you should.
New content! Though it's not an official Twelve Fives video, it's travel-related, and works on a five-second rhythm. Some Twelve Fives content makes an appearance and I think you'll like it if you like the Twelve Fives videos to date. Created for the Lonely Planet competition "<3" (less than three, or a heart in IM-speak), here is I Love Travel.
Download speed should be better as I'm now hosting my videos here -- though I haven't changed any of the older links yet. Let me know if it works for you.
It seems premature to say that, but yes, Alan from Belfast, there will be more Twelve Fives, as soon as I get some more video imported onto my replacement hard drive. I've been busy; I don't know what happened to the time, but it slipped away. So yes, more coming soon. Actually, there's an un-twelve-fives video you might like, called "Five", on YouTube. Enjoy!
The music, since you asked, is original, created in Apple's Soundtrack.
120bpm lines up nicely with 5 second shots.
EDIT: What was I thinking? It's 96bpm or 192bpm that lines up nicely with 5 second shots.
Twelve Fives is on a brief hiatus due to an annoying hardware failure. It'll be back in the next few weeks. Sorrry!
